Christian's Fight
Christian was living a full life with his wife and four daughters when a routine blood test indicated signs of aggressive prostate cancer.
"Hearing that word, ’cancer’, just knocked me” , recalls Christian.
Surgery was somewhat successful, but the cancer had spread to Christian’s lymph nodes. He started hormone therapy to keep it under control, and for a while, it worked - until his PSA levels began to rise rapidly, becoming 'out of control'.
“I’m sorry,” his urologist said. “There’s nothing we can do.”
Panicked, Christian reached out to an oncologist recommended by a friend. She offered alternative treatments, but none were effective. With options running out, she suggested he join a world-first study testing a combination therapy for advanced prostate cancer. Christian, not ready to give up the fight, fearlessly enrolled in ANZUP’s ENZA-p clinical trial.
“It’s an aggressive cancer, and you either go big or go home.”
Just one or two treatments from the end of the trial, Christian received unexpected news: "We're pretty sure you don't need any more treatment. It seems to be working"

Christian was told nothing could be done to stop his prostate cancer.
Now it's undetectable.
Cancer doesn't stand a chance against research.
Every major advance in cancer care has come from a clinical trial. But we need to keep fighting.
Below the Belt cancers account for one-fifth of all cancers diagnosed. For too many, the options remain limited - especially when cancer is found late or has already spread. And even today’s best treatments can cause uncomfortable side effects like fatigue, pain, and nausea.

Since 2008, ANZUP has conducted 35 clinical trials involving 8,800+ people from 750+ unique sites around the world.
Trial Highlights
The ENZA-p trial showed that using Lu-PSMA with enzalutamide helped people with advanced prostate cancer live longer and feel better, with less pain and tiredness.
This trial also tested a new approach called adaptive dosing, which tailors treatment based on how each person’s cancer responds.
PSMA-PET scans and PSA levels were used to help minimise unnecessary treatment and side effects.
These results support a more personalised approach to prostate cancer care, ensuring that each person gets the right amount of treatment based on their individual needs, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Results from the large ENZAMET trial showed that combining hormone therapy (enzalutamide) with standard treatment gave people with advanced prostate cancer about a 30% better chance of survival compared to standard treatment alone.
The findings contributed to enzalutamide being added to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) in 2023 — an Australian Government program that subsidises the cost of prescription medicines. This has improved access to this life-saving treatment by making it more affordable for those who need it.
