Goal 1
Goal 1: Conduct high-quality, multidisciplinary, practice-changing clinical trials in urogenital cancers
ANZUP is an organisation that unites a diverse array of professionals engaged in treating and researching genitourinary cancers, along with individuals directly impacted by these cancers.
Our diverse membership ensures the creation of robust, high quality clinical trials spanning a wide spectrum of tumour types, such as prostate, kidney, bladder, testicular, and penile cancers. We explore a range of treatment modalities including nuclear medicine, immunotherapy, online psychotherapy, and other supportive care resources.
The Principal Investigators (PIs) across ANZUP trials specialise in a range of areas including urology, surgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology, nursing, and psycho-oncology. ANZUP emphasises multidisciplinary leadership to ensure inclusive input into our research endeavours.
We prioritise involving junior researchers across all disciplines by inviting them to attend events like the Best of GU meetings, Rapid Fire symposium, MDT Masterclasses, and Ideas Generation Workshops, fostering the growth of the next generation of researchers.
Regular analysis and reporting occur within subcommittees, addressing submitted concepts, ongoing and developmental trials, and the pipeline. Updates are shared quarterly through both face-to-face meetings and Zoom sessions.
Ideas Generation Workshops, conducted for each of the five cancers ANZUP represents, encourage all subcommittee members to propose, consider, and review new concepts.
ANZUP facilitates effective communication with members through the Monthly Trial UPdate, aiming to enhance patient recruitment and promote cross-referrals. The UPdate offers valuable insights into trial recruitment, upcoming events, and key highlights from ongoing trials.
To keep members informed about trial recruitment status, ANZUP provides regular updates via various channels including Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) sessions, trial specific e-newsletters, social media, website updates, and Trial Management Committees (TMC) meetings.
ANZUP actively collaborates with international partners involved in trials like ENZAMET, ENZARAD and DASL-HiCaP, organising biannual International Trial Steering Committee meetings. These meetings are facilitated by ANZUP and allow relationships to be built or maintained with the international clinical trial community and also provide a platform to analyse the GU clinical trials landscape, discover research gaps and consider new concepts.
Central to ANZUP is the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), which fosters discussion among members regarding innovative trial ideas. The SAC serves as a platform to advance proposals into established protocols, fostering the development of impactful research initiatives.
