Marg McJannett

Chief Executive Officer

Margaret's background is in oncology nursing. She has worked as a clinical nurse consultant at The Sydney Melanoma Unit, research coordinator in the Medical Psychology Research Unit, Sydney University and project officer at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research in Brisbane. She was the EO of the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia (COSA) and Cancer Council Australia before joining ANZUP. She has facilitated and contributed to COSA's and CCA's expert committees, the national Cancer Co-operative Clinical Trials Groups and COSA's collaborative role with key stakeholders.


Nima Amatya 

Database and Administration Coordinator 

Nima’s role includes maintenance, coordination and administration of ANZUP’s clinical trials, membership and donor / stakeholder databases. She brings broad experience in administrative processes and data management, including six years in a number of roles at the Mary MacKillop Foundation. She is originally from beautiful Kathmandu in Nepal, however she is well travelled and did her schooling in Hong Kong and tertiary years in Delhi, India.  She and her family moved to Australia in 2010.

Gillian Bailey

Communications Officer

Prior to joining the ANZUP team, Gillian spent 12 years living and working in London. For 10 years she worked in healthcare communication agencies helping pharmaceutical firms develop and roll out events as well as marketing and educational resources. Prior to her return to Australia she was a Senior Communications Officer at The Department of Health, UK within the infection control team. 



Michelle Bowers 

Internal Communications and Project Manager

Michelle has a communications, publications and copywriting background with 17 years’ experience in the private and public sectors in the UK and Australia. Michelle holds a Bachelor Degree in Graphic Communication from the University of Northampton, UK and has worked across a range of industries including travel, financial services, tourism and place management. Most recently she was responsible for internal communications for more than 7,000 firefighters and admin staff as Manager Corporate Communications at Fire & Rescue NSW. Her role included managing print and electronic publications, strategic brand and reputation management and overseeing the organisation’s intranet, website and broadcast capabilities.

Lucy Byers 

Marketing and Communication Manager

Lucy Byers has worked in strategic and operational marketing positions for over 13 years, managing marketing, events, communications, sponsorship, digital and branding activities in a variety of industries including healthcare, property, not for profit, education, design and events. Lucy holds a Bachelor Degree in Communications and Advanced Diploma in Business and Marketing. Joining the ANZUP team in May 2016, Lucy brings with her extensive experience in increasing awareness and engagement for organisation’s and driving acquisition strategies to deliver outstanding results. 

Simran Chawla 

Clinical Trials Project Manager

Simran Chawla holds a Master’s in Medical Science in Drug Development from the University of New South Wales, Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology and Chemistry from the University of Sydney and has completed an Executive MBA from the University of Technology. Simran has over thirteen years of clinical trial experience in both Pharmaceutical and Contract Research Organisations. Having worked on a number of Phases I-IV multi-centre global clinical trials, she has in depth knowledge in International Conference on Harmonisation of Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP). Simran has vast experience within the clinical trials industry having held several roles ranging from Senior/Clinical Research Associate, Project Manager, Clinical Team Leader, Study Start Up Manager and Clinical Operations Manager.  Simran has extensive experience in clinical research across the Asia Pacific with specific expertise in project management, resource planning, stakeholder management, process optimisation and business development.

Christine Garforth 

Executive Assistant

Originally from Massachusetts in the USA, Christine has been a senior leader and director of a retail and wholesale FMCG business spanning 25 years. Christine has worked across business activities from developing a strategic vision through to full business restructurings and managing communication with key stakeholders.
